There are three main areas of focused action that make up the supporting legs of the solutions needed.  These action areas which CALSTART pursues include:

Clean Efficient Vehicles:  The specific clean transportation technologies which make vehicles – light-, medium- and heavy- duty – emit fewer emissions and reduce fuel consumption helping create cleaner, more efficient transportation.

Clean, Low Carbon, Renewable Fuels:  The fuel used to power vehicles has a big impact on emissions, energy security and climate change.  Therefore, clean fuels must address all three of these criteria.  It is likely a poly-fuel rather than a single oil-based fuel future is what we will see.

Integrated Mobility - Reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled: The transportation story is not just hardware but systems which move people more cleanly and efficiently thereby reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMT), traffic congestion, and most significantly – reducing fuel consumption.  Combining all the clean technologies and fuels creates clean transportation systems.
