The major California airports are working together to understand and address the environmental and energy challenges that arise from the large amount of ground transportation operations at their facilities. The airports and their stakeholders also face increasing federal, state, and regional regulations and mandates. To meet these challenges, an increasing number of technology and funding options are available to support cleaner vehicle and equipment fleets, including alternative fuels, retrofit control devices, and low-emission vehicles. Following the successful Clean Airport Fleets Workshop that was held in San Francisco in 2010, a follow-up event was held June 14, 2011 at Ontario International Airport. The workshop was supported by the Southern California airports (Burbank, Long Beach, LAX, Ontario, Orange County, and San Diego) and was attended by airport staff and key stakeholders.  Issues facing both airside and landside operations were addressed. Attendees benefited from increased knowledge of current and pending regulatory mandates, available technologies including operational experiences, and available funding.
